Many people may feel nervous about contacting a counsellor for the first time. As a counsellor I am not there to judge or give advice. I am there to listen to what maybe currently troubling you. What you bring to the therapy room is entirely your choice and I will work at your own pace. I offer a safe and confidential environment in which we can work, at my private practice in Selsdon, South Croydon, CR2 8SR.
Firstly we will have an initial consultation, where we will discuss your expectations of counselling and what you are hoping to acheive by entering into counselling. I will discuss with you the way in which I work and also see if you feel you can work with me.
Many people ask me how many sessions they will need. This is never a straight forward question to answer. Some clients I see may feel they only need a few sessions to talk to someone impartial, to "get it off their chest", how they are currently feeling. Others may have sessions over a number of years to explore deep rooted scars and traumas they have carried since childhood.
Other clients may just dip in and out of therapy as and when they feel they need it. I will have regular reviews with you to see how you feel the therapy is progressing. You may decide to cease therapy at any time.
Thereafter if you feel you wish to continue I will ask you to read through a working agreement. This will outline the day and time we agree to meet, the session fee chargeable and how this is paid (either cash or bank transfer) and the cancellation of session policy. If all of this is agreeable to you I will ask you to sign the working agreement.
If you wish to think about this agreement you are more than welcome to take this away with you and sign the working agreement the next time we meet.
By signing our working agreement you are not signing a contract and you are not commiting to a specific number of sessions.
If you have any further questions prior to booking an initial consultation, please feel free to either call me on 07792 281832 or email me at jasonvalenti@hotmail.com
